Copper (Sulfide Rock) Mining in Minnesota (Please log in to view full size image)

This cam shows the small amount of copper obtained from the sulfide ore and also shows the amount of waste that will be produced in the form of talcum-powder consistency waste that produces acid. Watch these samples age and change over time and with the changing times and seasons of the Ely Area. The image refreshes each 30 seconds.

From left to right in the picture:

1) The 2000 gram rock on the left is what mining companies lust after in Minnesota.

2) Approximately 20 grams of copper contained in #1 (represented by 20 grams of rock).

3) Lake Superior water with Lake Superior beach rocks (sample over 1 year old)

4) Sulfide Rock (very coarse-not pulverized as needed for copper extraction) in the same Lake Superior water as #4 (sample over 1 year old). Mine Drainage when mixed with water.
